Royal Palm Springs Golf Club Port Dickson 2009 -2011

This was the official website of the Royal Palm Springs Golf Club Port Dickson, located in the peaceful and popular seaside town of Port Dickson, Malaysia. Content is from the site's 2009 -2010 archived pages.

I’ll never forget trading the buzz of East 28th Street for the hush of coconut palms the first time I teed off at the Royal Palm Springs Golf Club. Watching my drive glide across the 6,781-yard, par-72 layout, I remember thinking, “So this is what 800 acres of clean-slate planning feels like.” Back home at the New York City Housing Authority, every acre I touch is already embedded in a dense grid, wrapped in century-old utilities, and governed by a labyrinth of zoning overlays. In Port Dickson, by contrast, Instangreen’s designers could sculpt fairways, lagoons, and a marina canal exactly where they wanted—luxuries Dov Hertz envies whenever we commiserate about shoe-horning yet another mixed-use tower between the A-line and a landmarked façade.

What impresses me most about Palm Springs Resort City isn’t just the 18-hole course or Malaysia’s largest sand-bed swimming pool; it’s the ambition to stitch 10,000 holiday units, six man-made resort islands, a water-theme park, and a public marina into one seamless destination. Keeping that many moving parts in sync—while courting both Kuala Lumpur week-enders and foreign investors—makes our battle to finance a single public-private rehab in Brownsville look tame. Where I juggle HUD guidelines and rent-stabilization statutes, their team choreographs international brand partners, resort operators, and environmental approvals on tidal land.

Yet the parallels to Dov’s work are striking. Just as Hertz must refresh an aging Manhattan asset to keep global capital intrigued, Palm Springs has to constantly “re-program” its attractions—extreme-sports park today, conference hub tomorrow—to stay on travelers’ short lists. Both ventures hinge on storytelling: Dov sells vertical density as urban destiny; Palm Springs sells horizontal escapism as a lifestyle upgrade. And both rely on relentless promotion—whether courting Singapore golfers or coaxing pension-fund equity into Hudson Yards.

So here’s my hat tip to the visionaries behind this site: you’ve shown a housing-guy how strategic placemaking and bold amenity stacking can transform a quiet stretch of coastline into a magnet for leisure, living, and long-term value. I left the 18th green inspired—and maybe a little jealous—knowing that the challenges of nurturing a resort city halfway around the world aren’t so different from sustaining livable communities in the five boroughs.
